Welcome to Mother Crow

POETRY, PAINT, & PERFORMANCE ART

by Sophia Elizabeth

The mediums are mixed and the style is diverse- spanning from incoherent and bizarre to sharp and polished- highlighting themes of mental illness and post-traumatic growth from childhood to motherhood including anxiety, grief, anger, guilt, shame, perfectionism, addiction, excoriation, identity, dissociation, mania, obsession, depression, insomnia, panic, disorder, therapy, maternity, birth, death, acceptance, forgiveness, gratitude, and healing.

Meet the Artist:

My name is Sophia Elizabeth.

I arose as Mother Crow to entertain you, enlighten you, and affect you with a kaleidoscope of artistry, stories, and insight. Any poem can be read aloud, but when poetry is painted, performed, stripped down, and exposed, it can breathe, cry, sing, and dance on a stage of universal experience.

As a multi-faceted artist, I intend to inundate your senses with meaning and inspire new perspective.

I write, speak, and paint poetry to exhume my voice and identify it as my own.

I was raised by the love of broken egos and lost youth- a recipe for people-pleasing, perfectionism, and panic attacks. At age 15, as I sought to cure the chaos of my internal narrative, I was misdiagnosed with bipolar disorder.

I have since amassed some more appropriate diagnoses, including panic disorder, excoriation disorder, complex PTSD, and an identity that dissociates under duress.

Despite the length of that list, and the number of years it took for me to own it, becoming aware of why I feel, think, and behave the way I do has given me newfound order. Ignorance was never my bliss; properly defining myself is what brought me much needed solace- and stability- after so many years of suffering.

I am Sophia Elizabeth.

I’m a mother. I’m an empath. I’m a homebody. I’m excitable and clumsy. I’m gullible, goofy, and graphic, and I have so much more to say.

I am Sophia Elizabeth.

I am Mother Crow.

Sophia has a B.A in English and Creative Writing with an emphasis in Poetry, a double major in Psychology, and a teaching certificate in Early Childhood Education. She lives in Northern California with her husband and two children.
